The NYCN Diaspora community came together for a powerful two‑hour virtual summit titled “The Way Forward,” hosted by NYCN Diaspora President, Mr Collins Idahosa and co‑hosted by Secretary General Ali Fahd. With over 60 Diaspora participants joining from across Europe and beyond, the session created a shared space for dialogue, clarity, and renewed commitment to the advancement of Nigerian youths in the diaspora. President Collins opened the event with a unifying message that set the tone for an afternoon centred on empowerment, institutional strengthening, and practical support.
Strengthening Governance and Leadership
One of the most significant moments of the summit was the formal adoption of the NYCN Diaspora Constitution (2026). This milestone establishes a more structured and accountable governance framework, including the creation of the Diaspora Youth Congress and the Diaspora Board of Trustees. The adoption signals a new chapter for the Council, one defined by stability, transparency, and long‑term vision.
The summit also addressed leadership clarity within the Swiss chapter. Ambassador Collins reaffirmed Dr Bisi as the officially recognised Youth Ambassador for Switzerland, while encouraging a diplomatic and orderly resolution to any competing claims. This clarification aims to strengthen unity and ensure that diaspora youths in Switzerland receive consistent and legitimate representation.
Embassy Updates
A major highlight of the event came from Mr Ayotunde Adigun, who delivered an in‑depth briefing on immigration and passport reforms. His presentation covered the automated passport application system, the Biometric Contactless Passport, the NIS Mobile App, and the transition to a full e‑visa system. He stressed the importance of accurate documentation and early passport renewal to avoid delays, guidance that resonated strongly with attendees navigating life abroad.
Community and Diplomatic Perspectives
Further diplomatic insight was provided by Mr Ogundemi Olumuyiwa, who discussed investment opportunities in sectors such as oil, gas, mining, and agriculture. He also emphasised the importance of compliance with host‑country laws to safeguard immigration status and professional credibility. Councillor Bev Mullaney added a community perspective, reflecting on the value of inclusive leadership and active local participation in building strong diaspora communities.
Looking Ahead
The summit concluded with an exciting announcement: the upcoming 62nd NYCN Symposium, scheduled to take place in London on 22 August 2026 in celebration of Nigerian Youth Day in the diaspora. The event promises to build on the momentum created during this summit and further strengthen the Council’s engagement with Nigerian youths in the Diaspora.
